The Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary is a unique place. Located far from urban development and the pressures of humans, these banks are protected more than other coral reefs in the United States and elsewhere. Their remoteness means just a few people will get to visit them each year.

Either driving or flying we will need to be in Freeport, TX to depart on the evening of May 22nd at 7PM to be motored out to the West Bank where we’ll wake up at 7AM and dive at 8AM (and again at 11AM). The West Bank is famous for sighting manta rays, so don’t forget to LOOK UP while you’re on your dive as divers sometimes miss seeing mantas passing above them!
After lunch we’ll dive on an oil platform. Be prepared to be impressed. Divers often go on this dive with modest expectations, but the deep-water oil platforms change a lot of minds! And many divers tell us the rig dive is the best we offer!
Next we’ll spend the evening at the East Bank where we’ll make one more dive before dark and a night dive. The East Bank usually has turtles that hang out with divers and aren’t shy about getting their photo taken.
Sunday, wake up at the East Bank for two more dives along the drop off with the sun rising to light up the reef. We’ll depart at lunch to reposition to Stetson Bank, another of our highest ranked dive locations. There we’ll do two more dives, including the famous Stetson Night Dive! Divers debate whether the Stetson Night Dive or the oil platform dive is the best!
Monday, we have two more dives at Stetson Bank and then, sadly, we must return to port, arriving around 5-6PM.
